Prince Harry apparently needed some time to clear his head and unplug from the rest of the world after his recent solo trip to Angola. The Duke allegedly went off grid for a couple of days as he slipped into the neighbouring country of Botswana to catch up with some old friends. Earlier this month Harry made his first trip in while without his wife Meghan Markle by his side. He travelled to the country of Angola to follow in his late mother’s footsteps in a bid to raise awareness surrounding landmines and the efforts to remove the dangerous weapons from the country. He made headlines by walking through a minefield the same way his mother, Princess Diana did back in 1997. He also spent time teaching the local kids about the dangers of mines. However, after his business there was concluded, the Prince apparently took a little detour to Botswana. Harry took the time to unplug from the world and spend some quality time with a couple of friends he once referred to as his “second family.” What was Prince Harry doing in Botswana? According to an article from GB News, the Duke was visiting documentary makers Tania ‘TJ’ Jenkins and Mike Holding. A source claimed that Harry had simply wanted to take some time to spend it with his friends. “This time he took some more time and space, and made the trip into a week-long visit to reconnect with old friends and get some headspace away from his phone and emails.” The source also added that “He went off comms for two days or so.” This is somewhat unusual for Harry as he usually only takes trips that are a couple of days long so as not to be away from his family for too long. Not only was his recent trip a full week, but it seems he spent at least a couple of days with absolutely no contact with Meghan or his kids. There has been no comments as of yet as to whether Meghan was aware that her husband intended to take the detour beforehand. Who are the Prince’s friends? Jenkins and her husband, Holding, have played a significant role in Harry’s life as they’ve known since before Meghan was even in the picture. He wrote about the couple in his memoir, Spare, where he commended them for their devotion to wildlife. At one point Harry even admitted to viewing Tania as a second mom. There’s no doubt the Prince sought out Jenkins and Holding for advice during a particularly tumultuous time in his life. As life in the U.S. seems to be getting harder for him and Meghan, the path back to royal life seems to be within reach. A recent meeting between Harry’s reps and King Charles’ reps has possibly opened the way to a royal reunion, but there’s still so much for the Prince to consider, and what better person to speak to than the woman he views as a second mother?
