More details surrounding Viktor Gyökeres’ move to Arsenal have emerged as the deal edges closer to completion. After reaching an agreement on a total package worth €73.5 million, the 27-year-old has been granted permission to travel to London to undergo his medical and finalise other formalities. The Swedish striker is then expected to join the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. He is also set to wear the iconic number 14 shirt and sign a long-term contract with the Gunners. Before the agreement was finalised, Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon were at odds over the structure of the add-ons. The North London club preferred more performance-based clauses that would be harder to trigger, while Sporting sought bonuses that would be more easily activated, ideally within a couple of seasons. That compromise has now been agreed, and fresh details of the bonus structure have been revealed. How Arsenal structured the Gyökeres add-onsAccording to Sic Noticias, the bonuses have been spread over a longer timeframe but remain realistic in nature. The payment terms are as follows:For every 20 games Gyökeres plays, requiring only 45 minutes per appearance, Sporting will receive €1.25 million, up to a total of €5 million. For every 20 combined goals and assists, Arsenal will pay an additional €500,000, up to a total of €1 million. For each qualification to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, Sporting will receive €1 million, up to a total of €4 million.(Photo by Michael Campanella/Getty Images)Realistic structure could benefit both clubsIn summary, Arsenal could pay €5 million for 80 appearances, €1 million for 40 goals or assists, and €4 million if they qualify for the Champions League in four successive seasons. These figures appear manageable for a club of Arsenal’s stature and give them the flexibility of spread-out payments, while still offering Sporting a fair return.Interesting detail, Gooners?Benjamin Kenneth__________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
