In a significant move aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare system, the Ministry of Health has announced the deployment of over 150 medical interns to various internship training centers across Uganda. The deployment, effective from 3rd August 2025 to 31st July 2026, was confirmed in a circular issued by Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services.According to the official communication, the Uganda Medical Internship Committee (UMIC) Secretariat finalized the placement list, which includes graduates who completed their medical training in 2025 and earlier. However, the list excludes nurses and midwives upgrading from diploma level, whose internship requirements were waived following a resolution by the Human Capital Development Program Interministerial Committee on Health and Education. The Ministry has directed hospital administrators and training center heads to immediately make arrangements for the smooth start of the internship program. All deployed interns are expected to report to their respective stations no later than 3rd August 2025.Key directives outlined in the circular include:1. Timely Preparation: Hospitals must ensure timely commencement of the internship program.2. Facility-Based Induction/Orientation: All medical interns are required to undergo orientation before beginning clinical duties.3. Submission of Reporting Lists: Hospitals must submit the list of interns who have reported by 15th August 2025, to facilitate the timely processing of intern allowances.Dr. Olaro emphasized the need for cooperation from all involved institutions to ensure a smooth deployment process, noting that this year’s internship intake plays a critical role in addressing healthcare workforce gaps and enhancing clinical service delivery across the country. The Ministry also copied the communication to key stakeholders, including the Hon. Minister of Health, Ministers of State for Health, professional councils, and regional referral hospitals, underlining the importance of coordination and oversight throughout the internship period. The post Over 2,000 Medical Interns Deployed Across Uganda by Ministry of Health was written by the awesome team at Campus Bee.
