The appointment, announced on Tuesday, marks a significant addition to the bank’s leadership team as it aims to accelerate growth within its Commercial Banking Division.Serumaga brings with him over two decades of banking experience spanning multiple African markets. In his new role, he is expected to offer strategic leadership and spearhead expansion efforts in commercial banking, an area seen as key to the bank’s broader growth ambitions.Before taking on this new role, Serumaga served as the Chief Executive Officer of NCBA Bank in Tanzania. His banking career has also seen him serve as Deputy Managing Director at Bank of Africa Kenya and Chief Digital Officer for Bank of Africa Group, where he led digital transformation efforts across 16 African countries.Earlier in his professional journey, he was General Manager for Business Development at Bank of Africa Uganda.The Board of Directors, led by Chairman Marik Ocitti, believes Serumaga’s background in commercial banking, digital innovation, and business development aligns with the bank’s mission of delivering inclusive and transformative financial solutions. His leadership is expected to strengthen the bank’s strategic direction and further enhance its market presence.Serumaga holds a Master of Business Administration in Executive Management from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University.He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), a distinction that reflects his broad professional expertise in both banking and marketing.With this appointment, Equity Bank Uganda signals its continued focus on leadership rooted in deep industry knowledge and a forward-looking approach to financial inclusion.
