Morecambe are facing closure by the end of the week after failing to resolve their financial difficulties, the club have revealed.A joint statement from the Shrimps and its prospective new buyers, Panjab Warriors, revealed on Wednesday that all first-team operations had stopped because the club’s insurance had lapsed.Morecambe could cease to exist by the end of the weekGettyThe group and Morecambe’s minority shareholders have now said the academy will close on Friday and that, as it stands, the club will cease to operate on Monday 4 August.This update comes amid ongoing financial and ownership difficulties for the 105-year-old outfit.On Monday, Morecambe were suspended by the National League until 20 August after failing to meet their financial obligations for the upcoming campaign.As a result, their first three league games – against Boston, Brackley and Scunthorpe – were all postponed.Morecambe were also removed from the 2025/26 National League Cup.The statement, headlined ‘Morecambe on the brink’, began: “It is with deep sadness and urgency that we issue this joint statement on the critical situation facing Morecambe Football Club. “Without immediate action, our historic 105-year-old club faces total collapse within days.”The club went on to outline its state of financial ruin, as it revealed both first-team and academy players have begun to look elsewhere as a result. The press release continued: “The Club’s Academy will cease operations by the end of this weekA list then “No insurance is in place.
