How long have you been taking photographs? I have been taking photos ever since I could remember; however, it's only been recently (~late HS/early college) that I took the medium more seriously with care. When I was a kid, my parents placed their digital cameras alongside some P&S in my hands. One part to help take their portraits at landmarks, and another part to redirect my explosive energy elsewhere! I guess you can say that they're a crucial factor in enabling me to grasp a sense of aesthetics! Why do you take photographs? What are you looking to get out of it? I take photographs for a multitude of reasons, but the main ones would have to be 1) letting me remember key moments with fond, from an artistic perspective too, and 2) contrary to what people commonly think, I believe photography genuinely pushes me to be further involved with the environment below and above my feet. I find myself observing details I would've overlooked in another lifetime. What inspired you to take this (group of) photo(s)? San Francisco is my muse. This city is one of my favorites in the world, despite having the privilege to witness other beautiful cities too. I find SF's density, co-existence with both nature and urban infrastructure, and district diversity to be something truly unique. I can't keep my eyes off of all the landmarks it has to offer no matter the amount of times I go; Palace of Fine Arts included too. Do you self develop or get a lab to process your film? Royal We Film Lab at Oakland processes and scans my films. However, I am also looking to get my own film scanning kit soon so I can home-scan! What first interested you in analog photography? I have been interested in analog before transitioning into the more "serious" photography phase. I always loved how ethereal film made a memory or a scene turn into, whether it be base colors or especially the signature depth achieved only by certain analog cameras. In fact, analog photography has been crucial to how I learned color-grading. I used film photos online as a way to reference and understand how certain colors complement each other. What is your favourite piece of equipment (camera, film, or other) and why? My current equipment is my favorite still: Fujifilm XT5 with the 33mm1.4 & the Mamiya 6. The former provides me with an immersive and tactile experience while the latter has made me extremely happy in adventuring and then seeing how the photos turn out. Do you have a tip or technique that other film photographers should try? I don't have any fancy techniques, but I simply love overexposing by 1/2 or 1 stop. I love how the light and colors turn out. You can say I never exactly follow box speed then. A tip I would give is to do whatever you like with your film and to go with the flow when you're capturing.
