In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials conducted a raid on LTT Express at Vijayawada railway station and arrested two women, on Thursday.They seized 30 kg of ganja that was being transported from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. The accused boarded the train at Pithapuram and was handed the ganja by a Nagesh from Simhachalam, said GRP Circle Inspector J.V. Ramana.The arrested have been identified as Jaya Alimulla Sardar, a blind woman from Gulmohar CHS, Mumbai, and Laxmi Shankar Natekar, a native of Borivali East, Mumbai, in Maharashtra, the CI said.During the investigation, it was revealed that a receiver, Murthy, was supposed to receive the ganja at Mumbai. The two women had accepted the offer to smuggle ganja for ₹40,000 from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra, Mr. Ramana said.“The accused travelled from Mumbai to Visakhapatnam, where they met Nagesh, who arranged the ganja. He came to Pithapuram and handed over the ganja packets to the accussed,” said RPF CI Ali Baig, who participated in the raid.The two women were travelling in B-4 coach of LTT Express. Efforts are on to trace the ganja supplier in A.P., said GRP CI.Nine arrestedIn a separate case, the Vuyyuru police arrested nine ganja peddlers in Krishna district and seized 2.5 kg of ganja from their possession on Thursday. The team led by Gannavaram Deputy Superintendet of Police Chalasani Srinivas Rao and Circle Inspector T.V.R. Rama Rao conducted raids and arrested the peddlers, said Superintendent of Police R.
