Moviment Graffitti has announced the first public action to stop the planning reforms set to “dismantle all safeguards”. A press conference will take place this evening at 6pm outside parliament as the second reading of the bill within the building. It seeks to explain how these laws will lead to “uncontrolled devastation in our country by giving dictatorial powers to the Planning Authority and hindering residents, farmers, and organisations from effectively appealing the rotten decisions being taken.” View this post on InstagramA post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Moviment Graffitti announced the action on social media, saying that the timing of the presentation of the proposed laws mid-summer was an unsuccessful attempt at steamrolling over everyone.“As soon as they saw the public’s strong anger towards these laws, yesterday they came out with smoke and mirrors to mislead people about the truth of this radical change they want to implement.”Moviment Graffitti is one of 10 NGOs that signed an open letter to Prime Minister Robert Abela urging these bills to be withdrawn. They are arguing that the reforms will give the development lobby unprecedented power in Malta, making it harder for locals to fight against rampant construction. They further pointed out that the government failed to launch a public consultation when drafting these laws, leading to allegations of an undemocratic and opaque drafting process.“This is not behaviour worthy of a democracy.”Will you attend this action?•
