Culture Minister Owen Bonnici joined locals and the Birżebbuġa Band for the traditional sea procession of San Pietru, calling it a one-of-a-kind celebration of Maltese heritage.Organised by the San Pietru Philharmonic Society, the annual event sees a statue of St Peter carried out to sea in a procession that’s as picturesque as it is meaningful.“The traditional procession of St Peter at sea is a unique event in Birżebbuġa! I truly enjoyed being present alongside the Birżebbuġa Band at this event, which so beautifully celebrates our traditions,” Bonnici said. From band music to fireworks and colourful crowds, the event drew locals and visitors alike to celebrate one of Birżebbuġa’s most cherished traditions.Once the boat reaches shore, the celebrations continue in true Maltese fashion. The statue is carried through the streets in a lively parade before being returned to Pretty Bay, where it remains until the feast concludes on Sunday evening.•
