This is especially true at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with work continuing on transforming the park’s former Muppets Courtyard area into a new land inspired by Monsters Inc.Called Monstropolis, this new expansion will transport guests into the fictional city inhabited by Mike, Sully, and the rest of the crew from Pixar’s classic animated film. Initially, this store specialized in small items and gifts related to the Muppets. During its final years, however, the Stage 1 Company Store was rarely, if ever, open to guests.The former shop is one of the first actual pieces of Muppets Courtyard to come down, with just one wall now left standing. Heavy machinery can be seen (and heard) moving around the former building.Credit: Inside the MagicMuppets Courtyard officially closed to the public on June 8, 2025, marking an exciting, uncertain, and controversial new chapter for Walt Disney World. Fans knew this day was coming for months, but this didn’t make saying goodbye any easier.While Disney World has seen numerous fan-favorite rides, attractions, and experiences come and go over the years, Muppets Courtyard, specifically Muppet*Vision 3D, was different. The 4D theater show wasn’t just a fun attraction, but a living tribute to Jim Henson himself, being the last project the creative worked on before his death in 1990.However, the Muppets aren’t completely being kicked out of Disney World. Eventually, the Muppets will call Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster their new home. The classic roller coaster will close permanently in its current form sometime in 2026, at which point it will receive a Muppets makeover.Monstropolis is expected to be completed by 2027, though Disney has not shared an official opening timeline just yet.Are you excited about Monstropolis?
