Liam Paro has proposed a fight with Manny Pacquiao in Australia. Paro announced in July that he is moving up to welterweight, meaning a match-up between him and ‘Pac Man’ could actually be actioned.Paro’s professional record stands at 26-1GettyPacquiao narrowly missed out on victory against Mario Barrios in his comeback fight for the WBC welterweight title last month. He returned at the age of 46 despite concerns, but after a brilliant performance is now inundated with call-outs.A fight in Australia would see Pacquiao returning for first time since his upset defeat to Jeff Horn in 2017.And Paro wants to be the fighter to host the Filipino legend down under. The 29-year-old said: “The legend, my favourite fighter Manny Pacquiao, is back in boxing. “Back at welterweight. Man, get me in there. Bring him to Australia.”In the Filipino’s only fight down under back in 2017, he fell victim to a highly controversial verdict and Horn was shockingly declared the winner of their bout. Horn beat Manny by unanimous decision as the scorecards read 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111, but many believed Pacquiao had edged the win. As for Paro, he briefly held the junior welterweight title after defeating Subriel Matias by unanimous decision in June 2024.Later that year, during his first title defence, he suffered a defeat via split decision at the hands of Richardson Hitchins. After bouncing back from his sole career loss to destroy Jonathan Navarro at welterweight via a brutal stoppage win in June, Paro has now set his sights on challenging the biggest names within the division.Pacquiao returned far beyond his primeGettyWho will Manny Pacquiao fight next?Ultimately it was heartbreak for the veteran, who now faces a crossroads as to what to do next. While a rematch with Barrios could give him the opportunity to do extend his already impressive record, Pacquiao is man that many want to fight. There are also other options including the likes of Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero.Pacquiao’s advisor, Sean Gibbons, made it clear to the BoxingScene that he would rather see a new rival for his man instead of pursuing the rematch. He said: “I don’t see why Barrios again. There’s [Rolando] Romero, ‘Tank’ Davis. Why do it again?” There were concerns surrounding Pacquiao’s age prior to his return to the ring, although his performance against Barrios in July seemed to prove them irrelevant.Pacquiao made it clear he intends to keep fighting now he’s back on the sceneGettyWhile Barrios is not the only fighter that would be open to a rematch, perhaps Pacquiao will face an old foe during his next outing. With the ideas of him facing Shane Mosley or Floyd Mayweather also floating, the rumour mill is certainly circulating names of potential opponents for ‘Pac Man’.
