Since 2021, Samsung has been launching every new Galaxy S series with three devices, a base variant, a Plus model, and an Ultra variant. This year, we saw the brand offer a fourth device as well, the Galaxy S25 Edge. However, that may not be the case with the company's next lineup of non-foldable flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 series, as a leak suggested that it may not have the Plus model (the Galaxy S26+). In its place, we will see the Edge variant (the Galaxy S26 Edge). Well, it looks like the tech giant is also planning to replace the base variant (Galaxy S26) with a Pro model (Galaxy S26 Pro).Folks at Android Authority dug deep into an internal build of Samsung's Android 16-based One UI 8.0 and found that it mentions three devices, labelled M1, M2, and M3, which correspond to Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, as you can see in the images below. There's no mention of the Galaxy S26 or the Galaxy S26+. This is our first proof that Samsung is making substantial changes to the naming convention of Galaxy S series devices. For those of you wondering if moving from Galaxy S26 to Galaxy S26 Pro also offers additional features, we don't have any information about that yet. Samsung bringing massive changes to Galaxy S series naming convention with Galaxy S26 lineupFor your reference, the Galaxy S24 lineup's codename was Eureka, and the base, Plus, and Ultra variants in it had codenames E1, E2, and E3 respectively. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 series' codename is Paradigm, and three devices in it, the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, have codenames P1, P2, and P3 respectively.Previous reports claimed that the Galaxy S26 lineup's codename is New Paradigm, and the three models in it, the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra, will have codenames NP1, NP2, and NP3. However, the latest leak reveals that the models in the Galaxy S26 series have codenames M1, M2, and M3, which means that the Galaxy S26 series' codename will begin with M. Unfortunately, we don't know what it is.Earlier today, we also got our hands on the first firmware for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which has revealed confirmed that Samsung's next software for Galaxy smartphones and tablets will be Android 16-based One UI 8.5, and the Ultra model will feature a Qualcomm chipset, most likely, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.
