Demanding a fixed honorarium of ₹10,000 as promised by the State government, ASHA workers in Karnataka have threatened to go on a three-day State-level day and night protest from August 12.Members of the Karnataka Rajya Samyukta ASHA Karyakartheyara Sangha, affiliated to the All-India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), have been demanding the fixed honorarium combining the State and Central incentives together.Addressing presspersons here on Friday, D. Nagalakshmi, State secretary of the sangha, said the State government had promised in January that all ASHAs would get a fixed honorarium of ₹10,000 from April onwards.“A protest was held in January this year urging the government to grant a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹15,000. However, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, it was promised that from April 2025 onwards, a fixed honorarium of ₹10,000 will be paid every month. However, no official order has been issued in this regard so far. Hence, ASHA workers are forced to protest again,” she said.“Besides, even the incentive of ₹1,000 announced in the State Budget 2025-26 is reaching only a section of our community members. It is yet to be disbursed to all ASHAs,” she said. The sangha members also demanded that the current “unscientific” method of evaluating ASHA workers’ performance be stopped immediately. Their other demands included an increase in the population limit assigned to each ASHA worker, ASHA workers should not be dismissed from their duties without valid reasons and retirement benefits on the lines of the West Bengal model.Published - August 01, 2025 07:56 pm IST
