SIT to seek imprisonment for life for Prajwal Revanna

BengaluruThe Special Investigation Team (SIT) is set to appeal for rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of the convict’s natural life, during the hearing on quantum of punishment for Prajwal Revanna on Saturday.Special Public Prosecutor Jagadeesha said that the court has convicted Prajwal Revanna on all charges framed against him. He was charged under Sections 376(2)(k) (being in a position of control or dominance over a woman, commits rape on such woman), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape on the same woman) 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. A person convicted under Section 376(2) of the IPC “shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years, but which may extend to imprisonment for life, which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life,” the IPC reads. Sources said given that Prajwal has been convicted under Section 376 (2) of the IPC, he is likely to get a sentence of at least 10 years.Published - August 01, 2025 07:29 pm IST
