A group of music promoters led by outspoken events organizer Abtex has announced a dramatic ban on Eddy Kenzo, accusing him of blocking their access to the Shs 33 billion recently allocated by the Ugandan government to support the creative industry.Speaking at a press briefing, Abtex and fellow promoters expressed outrage over what they called Kenzo’s “disrespect” and “undermining” of their role in the entertainment sector. The group alleges that Kenzo, who serves as a Presidential Adviser on Creatives, has advised President Museveni that promoters should not be included in the distribution of the funds.Eddy Kenzo has shown that he doesn’t need us. He’s the one hindering our access to the President. Yet we have many challenges as promoters that also need attention. From today, we’ve banned him from singing on any stage organized by us.Abtex Promotions plans epic 2026 music battle between Sheebah Karungi and Ava PeaceThe promoters’ fury extends beyond Kenzo himself. According to Abtex, even artists affiliated with the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), which Kenzo leads, will face restrictions from their platforms. We are tired of the disrespect by artists. Every time the government considers support, it only focuses on the musicians and forgets the rest of us.
