A centre of excellence (CoE) for Advanced Space and Defence Technologies has come up at SASTRA, deemed to be university at Thirumalaisamudhram near here.According to a release, the initiative to foster cutting-edge research and innovation has been conceived and implemented in association with Ansys, a global leader in engineering simulation and the university. The collaboration paves the way for accelerating indigenous technological development in the aerospace and defence sectors by providing a robust platform for simulation-driven research, design innovation, and skill development. The CoE will serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration between students, researchers, startups, and defence and space ecosystem stakeholders, the release added. Equipped with state-of-the-art simulation tools from Ansys and high-performance computing resources from SASTRA, the Centre will focus on critical areas such as structural and thermal analysis for aerospace systems, multiphysics simulations for space applications, mission reliability and system safety modelling, hypersonics, propulsion and materials engineering and electromagnetics for defence communication and radar technologies. The Area Vice President of Ansys India and Japan, Mike Yeager, said the initiative would bridge that gap by providing aspiring engineers access to world-class simulation tools.SASTRA Vice-Chancellor S. Vaidyasubramaniam said that CoE would not only empower the students and researchers but also support the vision of self-reliance in space and defence sectors, the release added.Published - July 29, 2025 07:00 pm IST
