For centuries, alchemists attempted to turn lead into gold – it turns out all they needed to do was open a box of Topps trading cards. That’s certainly how one football fan is feeling as they could potentially see themselves net a huge cash windfall from just one card. One box of Topps Inception could well change the life of one football fanInstagram - ToppsUKYamal’s Topp’s Inception one-of-one could fetch a huge sum at auctionMajesty Grading CompanyA lucky punter bought and opened a Topps Inception box, which was £165 on release, and hit the jackpot. The set is a premium one with seven cards per box, including one autograph card and two numbered parallel cards inside. And the fan managed to land an incredible Lamine Yamal one-of-one Rookie Card adorned with his signature. That has now been authenticated by Majesty Grading Company and given a 10, recognising its immaculate condition. It will go to auction and could now be sold for a huge sum, with similar examples hitting almost £400,000.“Beginner’s luck, really,” MGC director Jake Kirkham told talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs show.“He opened a box of cards, the box cost him around about £150, and it was the first time he was ever opening a box, and he pulled this card.“Even better as well. He opened three boxes, and he also pulled another Lamine Yamal card, which was also signed, but there were 25 of that copy, so a little bit less rare. “The fact that it’s a one-of-one makes it even more rare. Essentially, it’s one of his first-ever cards. So we call it a rookie card.“I essentially grade and authenticate the trading cards, make sure it’s genuine, and then we take it to auction as well and potentially sell it for the customer.Yamal’s incredible one-of-one card has been graded a 10 by Majesty Grading CompanyInsta - mgc_uk“But this is one of the first ones that he ever signed, one of the first ones that was produced, and it’s a one-of-one. So it’s the only one in the world in existence now.“Recently, a similar Lamine Yamal card sold for £396,000, and I personally think this card is better.”Pressed on the potential value, he added: “We’re estimating between £100,000 to £400,000, but it could really go crazy.“You know, it’s one of those ones that maybe could even achieve more further down the line.”Explaining the grading process, Kirkham said: “We see thousands of cards come through our office each day, and we authenticate them and grade them out of ten.“So one of the reasons why that’s so special. That card there is actually been graded a perfect 10. The condition of it is flawless. There’s no issues with it at all. It’s immaculate, and that then drives a premium for obviously people further down the line.GettyYamal has been so good with Barcelona, he’s now following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi by wearing the No.10 shirt[/caption]“Most of the time someone says ‘I’ve got something amazing that I found’ or ‘I’ve got these old Pokémon cards in the loft, Jake, they might be worth a bit’, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, okay, that could be cool, I’ll take a look at them’.“But when that call came in from Ryan and he says, ‘I’ve got the one of one Lamine Yamal and I think it might be worth a little bit’. Next day I was on the train up to Aberdeen, nine hours, going to see him and obviously then getting it into our possession to get it graded for him.”For the 2025/26 Premier League season, Topps have wrestled control of the rights from Panini and are set to offer a groundbreaking haul of products.Within the sets will be highly sought-after rookies, and talkSPORT host and Chelsea fan Andy Jacobs queried if the Blues’ new Brazilian ace Estevao would be one to watch.“He’s a very kind of sought-after rookie at the moment,” Kirkham replied.“Endrick was another one that we saw obviously now obviously moved from Palmeiras to Real Madrid and what people do essentially is a bit of investing, you know, you’re investing in talent. “One of my personal collections at the moment is Mikey Moore that plays at Tottenham.“We’ve seen some really good kind of things from him, and I’m kind of hoping that I buy a load of his cards when he’s early doors and all of a sudden they rocket up in price further down the line.“But Lamine Yamal’s a little bit of an enigma, isn’t he? You know, he’s kind of done this at an early age already. You couldn’t really get into his prices early. He was talked about straight away, so his prices [were high from the start].“I mean, I sold a Lamine Yamal Topps Now card, I sold that for £7,600 for a customer, which broke the UK record for Topps Now for Lamine Yamal cards. It’s a bit of a runaway train.”And it’s not just at the corner shop where you can buy these cards, as ‘The Hobby’ captivates a new generation.“We have a platform called MGC Live. So we sell the packs through there as well. We open them live on camera,” Kirkham explained.GettyYamal’s career is in the ascendancy, and it could see his trading cards soar in value[/caption]“Adam just sits on YouTube opening packs of cards and ends up pulling some crazy things.“The guys Phil and Mike, they were on stream for us recently, and an 11-year-old and his nan brought into what we call a break, and they got the Lionel Messi spot for £5.“We ended up pulling the one-of-one Lionel Messi with the actual badge that he wore from the shirt in a game, and we’re predicting that’s gonna probably sell for about £15,000-20,000.“I met with him and handed the card to him, and the kid was like, ‘No, I’m not letting go of that card whatsoever’. And I said, ‘Yeah, but you should have a think about this as a house deposit. You know, you should think about your future.“But it’s a bit of fun as well. It brings back the nostalgia. I think that’s the big thing for people as well.“See it as a bit of a game, a bit of fun to get involved in, kind of the trading cards and the sports card world. There is an investment side to it, but at the same time, you know, just have a bit of fun with it.”
