Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph has accused the State government of neglecting the plight of the landslip victims at Vilangad in Kozhikode even a year after the incident. After visiting the site on Tuesday, he said that only 30 affected people had got small amounts as compensation though 150 families had been affected by the disaster that happened on July 30, 2024. Shafi Parambil, Vadakara MP, had to come forward on his own to construct houses for those people, he claimed. On the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide, Mr. Joseph said that the government was unable to provide a proper answer in the Legislative Assembly to a question raised by Kalpetta MLA T. Siddique about the rehabilitation works. Even after the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League took steps to help the affected population in Wayanad, the government had been lethargic in action, he added.Mr. Joseph visited the newly built house of K.A. Mathew, who lost his life in the Vilangad landslip. He was accompanied by K. Praveenkumar, District Congress Committee president, and other leaders.Published - July 29, 2025 09:50 pm IST
