Jiri Prochazka has revealed that he will be the back-up fighter for Alex Pereira vs Magomed Ankalaev. Pereira is currently set to rematch Ankalaev for the light-heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 320 on October 4.GettyThe first fight between Pereira and Ankalaev saw the latter go 1-0 up[/caption]Ankalaev first defeated the Brazilian to claim the title when they fought in March. Now, they are gearing up to enter the octagon once again as Pereira and Ankalaev attempt to settle the score in the main event of UFC 320 in Las Vegas.Should the former find himself in a position to fight the back-up contender, UFC fans could see a trilogy fight headline the event. Prochazka confirmed that he will be the reserve contender for the main event should anything happen to either fighter. When he was asked about it on The Ariel Helwani Show, he simply said: “Yeah, that’s right.“That was the deal with the UFC.”The UFC often appoint backup fighters so that the main event wouldn’t be called off, should a fighter have to pull out last minute. Stepping up as a replacement contender would either give Prochazka the chance to face his foe for a third time, or the opportunity to win the title from Ankalaev.Having fought Pereira in both November 2023 and June 2024, the Czechia fighter is now behind 2-0 after being knocked down in both bouts. With those fights being the only losses of Prochazka’s UFC career, he may finally get the chance to earn a win against his rival Pereira.Ankalaev is putting his title on the line in their rematchGettyWhat do fans think of the UFC 320 back-up?Fans took to the comment section of the post on X to share their thoughts on the UFC’s decision. One fan wrote: “That is absolutely amazing. To be honest I’ve wanted to see Ankalaev vs Jiri when Jiri had the belt but unfortunately had to vacate it. I’m really hoping that if Alex were to lose again that we could see Jiri vs Ank before the year is over.”Another reaction simply read: “A great choice.”As it stands, Prochazka will be fighting Khalil Rountree Jr on the undercard, who is also a past opponent of Pereira.Following the Brazilian’s second win over Prochazka he went on to fight Rountree Jr in October 2024.Although, the American also lost to Pereira when they fought at UFC 307.
