He travelled powerfully on the inside but found every bit of trouble going and got out too late. He finished off his race strongly, but couldn’t reel in the winner and settled for fourth. He went off a red-hot 4/5 favourite to make amends at Epsom last time and did so in style. Sudu again travelled like the class act that he had looked at Newbury and this time he ran away from the field to score by seven lengths, with any amount left in the tank at the line.He has gone up 9lb in the weights, but the form was franked when the Epsom runner-up Navid won at Salisbury last week, and Sudu represents the Varian team that has won this race twice in the last 10 years from only three runners in that time.15:45 Goodwood – Ashariba – 13/2Local trainer David Menuisier usually has a few lined up for this week at Goodwood and Ashariba might be one of them. She appears to be steadily returning to her best form. The daughter of Ribchester won twice towards the end of last season and appeared to be on the upgrade. However, she has yet to reach that level in two starts during this campaign. She didn’t run badly when seventh at Epsom on her seasonal reappearance, but took a big step forward at Newcastle last time. She was beaten only a length-and-a-half by the winner that day and that was after taking up the running a long way out into the teeth of a headwind.Ashariba is capable of better now that she is returned to turf off a mark 1lb lower than last time and she is still unexposed on the surface, so there could be plenty more to come.16:55 Goodwood – Leadman – 7/1The final race of the day is a 20-runner handicap and the draw will be key. A low stall is essential in such a big field over 7f at Goodwood and Leadman has it from gate three. The son of Kingman is lightly raced for a five-year-old and appears to be improving. He recorded a career-best Racing Post Rating when winning a 7f handicap at Newmarket last time and has gone up only 4lb in the weights, so is capable of finding the progress needed.Leadman had Saturday’s Ascot International winner Two Tribes behind in third that day, so the form looks strong, and this is a race that trainer David O’Meara won with Rhoscolyn two years ago. This has probably been the target since and William Buick is a positive booking.Buick has six wins from 20 rides for the O’Meara team in the last five seasons and a further three were second, and four third. That suggests connections mean business this time.talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Get £35 in free betsVisit talkSPORT BET for all the latest horse racing betting odds*all odds correct at time of writing and subject to change18+ New Customers.
