It’s not been the most ideal start to life in Cleveland for Shedeur Sanders. With all noise surrounding him, following his shocking slide in April’s draft when he was selected as the 144th pick, the headlines haven’t stopped amid the intense quarterback competition at the Browns.Shedeur Sanders responded to questions about his lack of first teams repsGETTYThe four-way quarterback battle in Cleveland has left Sanders with limited practise reps with the Browns first team. The 24-year-old is seemingly QB4 on the depth chart behind veterans Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Sanders was regarded by some as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft. However, he is the only quarterback who has not been taking reps with the first-team offence in the offseason workout program and in the first two training camp practices. On Wednesday, Pickett, who was revealed to have got the nod as QB1 for the start of the camp, took all of the first-team snaps in 11-on-11 drills. On Thursday, Pickett and Flacco split the elite reps in team drills and on Friday Gabriel shared them with the two vets.Sanders has been limited to working with the third-team offense but got one session with the second-team during the final set of 11-on-11 drills. The situation has led Sanders to an unconventional way of putting in more work — throwing to equipment staffers. On ESPN Cleveland Radio, host Aaron Goldhammer revealed the unusual sight he saw on the practice field.“Shedeur Sanders is throwing not to receivers, but to equipment guys,” Goldhammer said.Sanders has barely trained with the first team so farSanders spoke to the media for the first time since training camp beganGETTY“They’ve got equipment guys snapping him the ball and then also running the routes,” Goldhammer said. “(Patrick) Mahomes is throwing to (Travis) Kelce. Shedeur is throwing to equipment guys.”What has Sheduer Sanders said about his lack of first-team reps?Speaking to the media on Day 3 of Browns training camp, Sanders gave a long-winded and honest answer when asked about his lack of experience with the first-team offense.“I don’t think that’s my place to answer, to give the answer to that,” Sanders told reporters.“I feel like that it’s not in my control, so I’m not going to think about that or even have that in my thought process of why it is. “There’s a lot of people who want to have the opportunity to be at this level, and I’m here and I’m thankful to have the opportunity. So, whenever that is, that is.”When asked about why he was throwing to equipment guys, Sanders again gave a strikingly honest response. “It doesn’t really phase me,” he added.“You’ve got to understand, we came all the way from an HBCU to a Power Five and now we’re here. So at this point, if you look around, there’s nothing that’s a challenge.”Sanders has repeatedly insisted that despite being seemingly buried on the quarterback depth chart, he is embracing every day with patience.“I would just say have a deeper level of understanding,” Sanders said.“I know whenever I get my opportunity, I’ve got to maximize it. So that’s something you have to change in the mentality. “I’ve just got to think about what I can do to get better, even if I’m not getting reps in. It’s no problem.”NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare? What has Kevin Stefanski said about the quarterback situation in camp?
