In Region Two, made up of the Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon river communities, where $9.6 billion is being invested this year in agriculture, infrastructure, and education—alongside major spending in indigenous communities—PPP General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo reminded voters Saturday that the PPP is the only party they can and should trust with governing their region and the country.Essequibo has 9,600 farmers cultivating over 84,000 acres of farmland and so the investments in the region mean a lot to them, such as maintaining drainage and irrigation and opening more lands for cultivation.“The reason we have the largest crowds is because this party is trustworthy. This party delivers on what it promises,” Jagdeo declared to loud applause at Anna Regina, where the PPP held its re-election rally.“In good times and bad, we have stood by our people. You can count on us to continue doing so.”Vice President and General Secretary of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Bharrat Jagdeo, addressing the PPP/C’s election rally at Anna Regina (Photo: News Room/ Vishani Ragobeer/ July 26, 2025)An estimated 5,000 of new farmlands were made available in the region last year and the target for this year is an additional 10,000 acres.Jagdeo told the large crowd on the Essequibo Coast that the party remains the most trustworthy political force in Guyana, with a consistent record of delivering on its promises, and warned that a return to opposition rule would drag the country backwards.Jagdeo said the PPP’s policies have improved lives across the country, and he pointed to areas like the Pomeroon and the Essequibo farmlands which have benefitted from swift relief in times when they face flooding. He recalled the “sad years” under the former APNU+AFC referencing poor infrastructure that left farmers without proper drainage, irrigation, or farm-to-market roads.“Every meeting we went to…rice farmers spoke of neglect. Pomeroon people were flooded and didn’t receive help,” Jagdeo said. “We made commitments then, and we fought hard to change the circumstances.”But Jagdeo said the PPP is not done yet.“There’s still more work to do,” he said, promising more and better jobs.“I promise you will get those jobs,” he assured the crowd.General elections are scheduled for 1 September 2025.The post Elections 2025: As PPP seeks to win back Region Two, Jagdeo says the party is only trustworthy choice appeared first on News Room Guyana.
