A technical issue at Britain’s air traffic control provider disrupted flights at major airports across London and other parts of the country on Wednesday. Although the issue has since been resolved, the disruption caused delays and forced many travellers to alter their plans.“Our systems are fully operational and air traffic capacity is returning to normal,” NATS, Britain’s ATC, said in a post on X.“Departures at all airports have resumed and we are working with affected airlines and airports to clear the backlog safely. We apologise to everyone affected by this issue.”ℹ️Technical issue at SwanwickOur engineers have now restored the system that was affected this afternoon. We are advising passengers to check with their airline before travelling,” a spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said, Reuters reported.Other airports, including Gatwick and Edinburgh, also reported resumed operations after earlier disruption. London City Airport had earlier acknowledged a service disruption as well.It was not immediately clear how long the outage lasted or the number of flights affected. However, the issue sparked concerns due to its wide impact across UK airspace. The incident is reminiscent of a major disruption in August 2023, when an automatic flight plan processing malfunction led to widespread delays. That episode prompted Britain’s aviation regulator to call on NATS to review its contingency planning.(With Inputs from Reuters)Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdTags:London
