Preparation of DPR for third and fourth lines under way, says Union Railway Minister

The preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the third and fourth lines between Mangaluru and Coimbatore via Shoranur-Palakkad and for a third line along the Shoranur-Ernakulam-Kayamkulam-Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil stretch is under way, said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in Parliament on Wednesday.Replying to a question, he said, “Introduction of new trains require increased capacity of railway tracks. The government is trying to increase the capacity of railway network in Kerala. The Centre has taken up the DPR preparation of important railway networks in the State, including from Shoranur to Mangaluru, where the DPR work for the third and fourth lines is going on. The DPR preparation for the third and fourth lines on the Shoranur to Coimbatore route (99 km) is also going on.The DPR for the third line is also going on for the Shoranur to Ernakulam, Ernakulam to Kayamkulam, Kayamkulam to Thiruvananthapuram, and Thiruvananthapuram to Nagercoil sections.
