Last night, when we went to sleep, he had taken her phone,” the mother told policeWhen Sharda, a helper at a private company in Greater Noida, prepared dinner on Sunday — a hearty meal of chicken curry and rice — for her husband and three children, she did not know this was the last time the family of five would be eating together. After dinner, all of them retreated to the terrace of their one-storey house in Sirsa village to sleep.When she woke up on Monday, around 6 am, she saw two bodies in one of the rooms on the ground floor — her husband, Ashok Kumar (45), was hanging from an iron rod and her 18-year-old daughter was lying dead on the floor.Police said Ashok, a tailor at a private firm, allegedly killed his daughter after he suspected her of having an affair and later hanged himself.Around 6.30 am on Monday, Sudhir Kumar, Additional DCP, Greater Noida, said police received a call on the 112 helpline that a man had died by suicide. “A police team reached the spot and found a person hanging and the body of a woman nearby,” he said.“When we spoke to the family members, we found that Ashok had killed his daughter over an affair and then died by suicide… The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and all aspects are being investigated,” said the Additional DCP.Dharmendra Shukla, SHO, Kasna Police Station, where the call was received, told The Indian Express that it was Ashok’s brother, Hublal, who informed the police of the two deaths. “We are still trying to figure out the exact cause of their deaths,” Shukla said.On Monday, Ashok’s house wore a deserted look with a lock outside. With her two sons, aged 11 and 12, Sharda has shifted to her sister-in-law’s house, a few metres away. “Everything was going well for us.
