‘Give me a break’: Republicans ditch 250 Years of democracy to embrace a favorite North Korea tradition

Wait 5 sec.

Republicans are being compared to a “Kim Jong-Un-style cult” as Trump could get the same recognition as a top president. A noticeable trend of laws and proposals meant to honor Donald Trump in big ways has raised concerns, with critics saying it looks like the kind of leader worship seen in authoritarian governments and is very different from how American politics usually works. One of the most surprising ideas from Republicans is the bold attempt to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A Republican lawmaker from Idaho wanted to name the Kennedy Center’s opera house after Melania Trump, while another from Missouri went even further by proposing the “Make Entertainment Great Again Act,” which would rename the whole building the “Donald J. Trump Center for Performing Arts.” According to MSNBC, this second proposal, officially labeled as bill H.R. 4715, is currently looking for support from other lawmakers, even though it probably won’t pass and might go against the law that created the Kennedy Center in the first place. These efforts are part of a bigger pattern where Republicans push for name changes based on their political beliefs. Trump’s lackeys want to take Kennedy’s name off the performing arts center In the past, Trump has tried to rename places like the Gulf of Mexico, holidays like Veterans Day, military bases, and even sports teams. But the current focus on Trump seems to be a new level of extreme, with lawmakers going out of their way to pass flattering laws for a current leader. The ideas to honor Donald Trump go far beyond just the Kennedy Center. There is an idea to create a $250 bill featuring Donald Trump’s face. Additionally, his picture should be placed on $100 bills. Another proposal is to declare Trump’s birthday a federal holiday, meaning it would be a day off for everyone across the country. There is also a suggestion to carve Trump’s face into Mount Rushmore, the famous monument that already features several U.S. presidents. Republican ass kissing is destroying our country.Bob Onder's (R-Mo.) bill would strip former President Kennedy’s name from The Kennedy Center and have it known as the “Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts.”Give me a fucking break.— ᒪᗩᑎᑕᗴ He/Him (@LanceUSA70) July 28, 2025 If you want even more strange suggestions from the bills, Washington Dulles International Airport could be renamed in honor of Trump. Lastly, the name of Washington, D.C.’s subway system should be changed to include Trump’s name as well as his well-known slogan, “Make America Great Again,” often shortened to MAGA. These changes would emphasize Trump’s influence and legacy in various aspects of American culture and infrastructure. These proposals are not random but part of a clear pattern where Republican officials spend a lot of time and effort on ideas meant to praise the former president. This goes beyond just laws—his supporters have also tried to get him nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and even change the rules so he could run for a third term as president. Filipe Campante, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, said, “The reason why this is bad is the very fact that it’s transparently ridiculous: It shows how this is becoming a Kim Jong-Un-style cult of personality, where the sycophants try to outdo one another in their groveling to get the attention of Dear Leader.” Many of these proposals are clearly ridiculous, but the real concern is how this kind of behavior has become a key part of political competition. Unfortunately, this race to win Trump’s approval shows no sign of slowing down.
