The Finance Ministry anticipates collecting ₹5.91 lakh crore from cess and surcharge in the current fiscal year, marking a 9.43% increase from the previous year. These collections, comprising ₹4.18 lakh crore from cess and ₹1.72 lakh crore from surcharge, will fund Centrally Sponsored Schemes and address specific Union needs. The Centre currently operates eight different cesses.
