A protest has been organised outside Mediterraneo Marine Park, urging for “the end of marine mammal captivity”.The demonstration is set for Saturday 2nd August at 9.30am at the Mediterraneo Marine Park entrance. View this post on InstagramA post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Organised by Earth Systems Association (ESA), Friends of the Earth Malta, Animal Liberation Malta, Marine Connection, TideBreakers and Dolphin Project, the protest seeks to be a powerful show of unity.“We are calling for a future where animals aren’t held for entertainment at the cost of their freedom and well-being,” the Facebook event reads.“This is our chance to raise our voices for the voiceless and make it clear: entertainment should never come at the cost of suffering.”The park has long been controversial with animal activists often calling for the revocation of its zoo license. They argue that their legal recognition as a zoo allows them to act as a circus.Over the weekend, Lovin Malta released an interview with someone who briefly worked at the park and lamented on the dolphin behaviour he witnessed. The interviewee was not a conservationist, however, he recounted seeing dolphins bang their heads against the holding gates within the tanks.•
