Members of the Naam Tamilar Katchi from the Tiruverumbur Assembly constituency submitted a petition to the District Collector on Monday, urging immediate action to execute the long-pending PalpannaiâThuvakkudi service road project within six months.Despite the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court issuing an order on October 15, 2019, mandating the projectâs execution, the project has remained dormant for over several months. The petition highlighted the growing number of road accidents on the Tiruchi-Thanjavur highway, leaving many injured and dead. The current traffic bottlenecks around the Palpannai roundabout force vehicles heading straight and those taking left turn to converge at the signal, leading to significant congestion and long delays. The petition demanded that the width of the service road on all the four sides of the roundabout be expanded to ease traffic flow and prevent accidents. The memorandum was submitted by N.S. Mathiyazhagan, Zone Secretary, Naam Tamilar Katchi, Tiruverumbur Assembly constituency, accompanied by other party members.Published - July 28, 2025 05:17 pm IST
