American support for Israel’s war against the Hamas terror organization in Gaza falls to all-time low, driven by sharp declines among Democrats and independents – while support remains steady among Republicans.By World Israel News StaffLess than one-third of Americans now support Israel’s ongoing war against the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip, a new poll has found, marking an all-time low in US support for the war which has raged since October 7th, 2023.The poll was published by Gallup on Tuesday, based on a survey conducted from July 7th through the 21st.According to the poll, just 32% of Americans say they approve of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, down from a peak of 50% at the beginning of the war in October 2023.Support for Israel’s war on Hamas fell to 36% in February 2024 before rising again to 42% in May of that year, where it remained in August.Since then, however, American approval of Israel’s war on Hamas has tumbled 10 points, while the percentage of Americans who disapprove has risen 12 points, from 48% to 60%.The decline in US support for Israel’s war on Hamas has been fueled entirely by sharp declines among Democrats and independents, the poll found, as the partisan divide over the war widened dramatically.Republican support for Israel’s campaign in Gaza has held steady at 71%, the same level as at the beginning of the war, fluctuating only slightly in the interim.Among Democrats, however, backing for the Gaza war has plummeted from 36% in October 2023 to just 8% in the latest survey.Just a quarter of independents say they approve of Israel’s war in Gaza, down from nearly half (47%) in October 2023.American support for Israel’s 12-day air campaign on Iran’s nuclear program is marginally higher at 38%, with 54% disapproving.The same partisan divide was observed in support for Israel’s strikes on Iran, with 78% of Republicans approving, compared to just 31% of independents and 12% of Democrats.Eighteen percent of Republicans, 60% of independents, and 79% of Democrats disapprove of Israel’s campaign against Iran.The poll also found fewer Americans have a favorable view of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.For the first time ever since Gallup tracked American favorability ratings for Netanyahu in 1997, an absolute majority (52%) of respondents say they have an unfavorable view of Netanyahu, compared to just 29% who say they have a favorable view.Prior to the war, in 2019, just 27% of Americans had an unfavorable view of Netanyahu, with this figure rising to 47% by November 2023, a month after the October 7th, 2023 invasion of Israel.However, among Republicans, Netanyahu’s favorability rating is at an all-time high of 67%, compared to 19% among independents and 9% among Democrats.The poll also found that support for Israel’s campaigns in Gaza and Iran, along with Netanyahu’s favorability ratings, were significantly higher among men than among women; among respondents 55 and older than among younger respondents, and among non-Hispanic whites than among all other ethnic groups.The post Just 8% of Democrats back Israel’s war on Hamas appeared first on World Israel News.
