One position each ‘Big Six’ team still needs to strengthen

Wait 5 sec.

There’s just over a month left of the summer transfer window, and areas that Premier League sides must try to improve. We’ve looked at one key position that each ‘Big Six’ side still needs to strengthen before the deadline.Arsenal – Left-wingerArsenal have brought in six new faces during a summer of heavy investment in North London. Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres are the marquee recruits, with the latter the long-awaited goalscorer the Gunners have craved.Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke add depth in key areas, but continued talk over the signing of a new left-winger remains. Gabriel Martinelli has struggled for consistency, and an upgrade could be required if last season’s runners-up are to take the next step.Speculation surrounding Rodrygo has gone quiet, with Arsenal instead focused on Eberechi Eze. The Crystal Palace midfielder is not an out-and-out wideman, but could be a useful option at left-wing or as a left-sided central midfielder. Arsenal remain interested in Eberechi Eze, but are not willing to meet a release clause in excess of £60M and will only bid if Crystal Palace reduce their asking price.(Source: @TheAthleticFC) pic.twitter.com/ptJE8dpC3u— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) July 30, 2025Eze could bring left-sided balance to a team often funnelled towards Bukayo Saka. A raft of young talent has arrived, though there’s a feeling that Chelsea lack experience in the spine of their side.Robert Sanchez made the joint-most errors leading to goals of any player in the Premier League last season. The Spaniard had his moments in the Club World Cup, though few have been convinced during his time in the Chelsea goal.A failed move to Mike Maignan earlier this summer indicated Chelsea are prepared to upgrade if the right player is available. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s availability at Paris Saint-Germain could prove tempting.Liverpool – Centre-backThe transfer talk at Liverpool centres around Alexander Isak and a potential second British record deal of the summer for the champions. While the signing of the Newcastle striker would be a huge statement, an area of concern for the Reds comes in central defence.Jarell Quansah was allowed to leave for Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer, while Joe Gomez departed the pre-season tour with yet another injury. With Ibrahima Konate out of contract next summer and Virgil van Dijk now 34, a centre-back signing is needed.Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi continues to be heavily linked. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Manchester City – Right-backAfter experimentation with four centre-backs and Matheus Nunes as an auxiliary right-back, Manchester City may look for a permanent solution before the deadline. Tino Livramento, of Newcastle, is a player of interest, but a huge asking price has deterred the Citizens from making a move. The elite right-back pool is not overly deep right now, but it’s one that City will be scouring. A continuation of Nunes at full-back looks an obvious area of weakness in Pep Guardiola’s side.Manchester United – Centre-forwardWith goals in short supply last season, Ruben Amorim has addressed his side’s deficiencies with additions. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are in the door at Old Trafford, having combined for 48 Premier League goals and assists last season.Next on the agenda is a centre-forward to lead the line and complete a new front three. Rasmus Hojlund toiled last season, and Joshua Zirkzee’s best football has come in a deeper role. Progressive talks with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko are encouraging. Kudus will bring an X-factor to the club’s frontline, but additions further back are required.Defensive midfielder has been an area of weakness for Spurs, who lack an out-and-out destroyer or a progressive passer at number six. Combinations of Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma have failed to find the right blend, and the latter has been linked with an exit.Frank favoured Christian Norgaard as one of his anchors at Brentford, a player whose best work came out of possession. It makes reports of a move for Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha appear sensible.Read – The footballers with the highest combined transfer feesSee more – Five teams that sold their star player and got betterFollow The Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post One position each ‘Big Six’ team still needs to strengthen first appeared on The Football Faithful.
