Galway Festival 2025 day three betting tips

Wait 5 sec.

It’s Plate Day at Ballybrit, and punters know the drill – expect the unexpected. The Galway Plate might be a handicap, but it’s no lottery. Get the right blend of stamina, jumping, and, of course, craft, and you could be holding the golden ticket in one of the trickiest puzzles of the week.Big yards often dominate, but this race has room for a plot job or two – especially with the ground on the easy side and a searching trip. Keep an eye on horses with form over fences and a touch of class; this isn’t one for slow boats or chancy jumpers. Let’s dive into the ones who fit the bill.Top Galway Festival 2025 offerGalway Festival day 3 (Wednesday) tips5.05 Hipop De Loire 4/65.35 High Court Cave 8/1 each way6.05 Radar Ahead 6/1 each way6.40 Down Memory Lane 11/2 each way7.15 Mont St Michel 9/47.50 Sujet 2/18.20 Jacovec Cavern 16/1 each way*odds from bet365 are predicted and subject to changeJoe’s best horse racing betting tips for the Galway Festival on WednesdayFind my top tips for today’s Galway racing with odds from the best horse racing bookies below:Galway 5.05 Tote 50,000 Guaranteed Placepot Today Maiden Hurdle (5YO plus) 2m6fWillie Mullins has won 3 of the last 5 renewals, so HIPOP DE LOIRE is understandably a warm order at the top of the betting. He met trouble in-running when fourth at Roscommon and also showed a great deal of promise on his sole start over hurdles, finishing a close second at this track last year. His Flat form suggests there should be plenty more in the locker, and I expect him to get the job done under Paul Townend.Hard to pinpoint an exact danger, but perhaps Zanndabad could raise his game here. The step back up in trip should help him, and some of his form is quite decent, so don’t underestimate. Bet on HIPOP DE LOIRE to win at 4/6 with bet365 Galway 5.35 Tote Money-Back 2nd Every Race Today Handicap Hurdle (4YO plus) 2m6fThis is a fascinating puzzle to try and solve! 22 horses heading to post over 2m6f in likely ground on the soft side of good. HIGH COURT CAVE definitely makes the appeal, given how lightly raced he is. He goes handicapping for the first time, and his mark may well underestimate him. He just looked tapped for toe running over 2 miles in maiden hurdles, but I expect this step up in trip to be a catalyst for improvement, and he may well surprise a few here.Affinity Rock looked good winning at Killarney, and that form looks decent, so if she improves again now handicapping, she could emerge as the danger. Beggars Rock is another one that made my shortlist and could get in the frame at least. Bet on HIGH COURT CAVE each way at 8/1 with bet365 Galway 6.05 Tote, 5,000 Guaranteed Jackpot Irish EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle (4YO plus) 2m1/2fVisually, the way RADAR AHEAD won on handicap debut at Sligo last time was impressive. She went clear by 5 and a half lengths, having travelled best, and the runner-up Spick And Span has won since (and by 4 lengths) to frank the form. She has more to come based on her Flat form and looks a danger to all in this.Enfranchise won at this meeting a couple of years ago and had been running well until down the field at Fairyhouse last time. She is well handicapped on her Flat form and should run a big race. Bet on RADAR AHEAD each way at 6/1 with bet365 Galway 6.40 Tote Galway Plate (Handicap Chase) (Grade 3) 2m61/2fTrends11 of the last 12 winners were aged between 7 and 92 of the last 12 winners were favourites10 of the last 12 winners carried 10 stone 13lb or less9 of the last 12 winners were rated between 136 and 149I don’t think you can be overly confident in a race like the Galway Plate, but I have to admit I do really fancy DOWN MEMORY LANE to go close. He is a classy horse, and that is just what you need for this race. Gordon Elliott has won 4 of the last 10 renewal,s and this 7yo should appreciate this better ground. As long as there isn’t too much rain, he should have a huge chance of this current mark. He is somewhat thrown in on his Grade 1 form, and he is still very much unexposed, having only had 4 starts over fences.Obviously, plenty of dangers and likely headed by Nurburgring, who finally looks to be delivering on the track. He chased home Ascending at Royal Ascot and then won head in chest at Killarney back over fences last time. Of the rest, Buddy One makes some appeal but needs to put in a clear round of jumping to get involved. Bet on DOWN MEMORY LANE each way at 11/2 with bet365 Galway 7.15 Download The Tote App (Q.R.) Maiden (3YO plus) 1m4fThis is not a race I would have a strong opinion in, but a tentative vote goes to the market leader, MONT ST MICHEL. This colt by Galileo was a very good second to Royal Hollow at Killarney last time, and he does set the standard off the back of that. He likely has more to come, especially over a mile and a half, and he should run well.Waterford Flow wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot and then came forward again to finish a close second at Limerick, so could emerge as the danger. Edelak has been backed, but I have to admit his profile doesn’t entirely convince. Bet on MONT ST MICHEL to win at 9/4 with bet365 Galway 7.50 Watch Danny’s Diary – 15 Years Of Tote Memories Handicap (3YO only) 1m1/2fThe way SUJET brushed aside the Mississippi River to win at the Curragh last month was quite eye-catching. The front pair pulled clear too, and if the ground doesn’t get too testing, then he should follow up against these. He is 9lb higher but is completely unexposed, and this looks winnable.First Wave looked progressive bolting up at Gowran and obviously was pitched in at the deep end behind Field Of Gold in the St James’s Palace Stakes. These are much calmer waters, so he could be the one to give the selection most to think about. Bet on SUJET to win at 2/1 with bet365 Galway 8.20 Tote, Never Beaten By SP Handicap (3YO plus) 2m1/2fA wide open handicap to close out, and I’ve taken a chance on JACOVEC CAVERN running better than his price suggests. I just think the trip stretched him when sixth at Ballinrobe, and given time to recover, since he comes here a fresh horse, and the drop back down to 2 miles looks ideal. He finished second in this race last year off just a 2lb lower mark, and I’d be confident he can bounce back and go close.Of the market principals, Light Up The Dark is a well-bred, unexposed filly, so she is likely to have her supporters. She won well at Down Royal last time and looks the biggest danger. Bet on JACOVEC CAVERN each way at 16/1 with bet365 My top tip for Wednesday’s racing at the Galway FestivalHIPOP DE LOIRE looks a standout in the opener. A proven performer over hurdles at Galway, fit from the Flat, and representing the Mullins-Townend axis with a serious rating behind him. Later on, SUJET caught the eye, winning readily at the Curragh, beating a good yardstick in the process. He has gone up in the weights but is unexposed and is definitely the most likely winner.
