Given that it was announced over a year ago, we know surprisingly little about Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land. It appears that with the closing of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, Disney has begun clearing land for both Cars Land and Villains Land, but we’re still lacking any precise details on what will happen in Villains Land.Credit: DisneyFans can expect more details at the D23 Expo in late August, but that’s a full month away. However, we may have just gotten a few minor details from a Disney legend. At this weekend’s San Diego Comic Con, legendary Disney animator Andreas Deja confirmed that he is lending his knowledge of Disney Villains to help create the new land. Even if Deja isn’t a household name, you are familiar with his work and the creation of some of Disney’s greatest characters.Deja started at Disney in 1980. His first project was working on The Black Cauldron (1985) with his cubemate, Tim Burton. From there, Deja drew Gaston, Jafar, Scar, and Queen Narissa in Enchanted (2007). Credit: DisneyDeja is also responsible for the look of some of Disney’s most iconic characters, including Roger Rabbit, King Triton, Hercules, Lilo, Mama Odie, and Tigger. He also drew Mickey Mouse in Fantasia 2000 and is currently the resident specialist for the animation of Mickey Mouse. He is also no stranger to working on Disney theme parks. Deja consulted on a Lion King attraction at Disney Adventure World in Disneyland Paris.Credit: DisneyWhile Deja could not provide specific details, he did say that Villains Land’s “time had come.” Despite the lack of specificity, it’s comforting for Disney fans to know that someone versed in some of Disney’s greatest villains will have a say in the new land.Credit: DisneyThis also confirms that Disney is working behind the scenes to create the rides, attractions, and aesthetic of the new Magic Kingdom land, and we should expect some major updates soon. The D23 Expo seems like the perfect place for Josh D’Amaro to drop some new art and attraction updates. We’ll know in a month. What do you think Disney’s new Villains Land will include?
