Women shopping at a Nordstrom Rack and a Walmart in Burbank, California, on July 22, 2025, were alarmed when a man seemed to crouch down behind them and sniff their rear ends, so they called the police. According to a City of Burbank press release, when police arrived at the Nordstrom Rack, the man, later identified as 38-year-old Calese Carron Crowder, had already left. Police spotted Crowder, from Glendale, at a Walmart nearby. Surveillance cameras showed him doing the same thing to women at that store, too. Crowder’s a convicted sex offender According to local news outlet KCAL News, Crowder is a registered sex offender on active parole. His convictions include doing similar things to women in public dating back to 2021. He has a documented history that includes indecent exposure, burglary, robbery, peeping and prowling, including incidents at bookstores and private residences. In some cases, Crowder’s crimes involved children. Crowder made national news once before, in 2023. That year, someone recorded him sniffing women’s behinds at a Burbank Barnes & Noble. One woman then shared the footage on social media. Former Crowder victim responds Michaela Witter, who caught Crowder smelling her at Barnes & Noble, told KCAL News after his most recent arrest, “I feel like the justice system is just neglecting everything.” She added, “It’s crazy to think that someone like this, who’s constantly stalking and violating these people, is allowed to be out and about.” Though shocking, a comment on the Burbank Police Facebook post about Crowder’s arrest noted similar violations aren’t as uncommon as they might at first seem. “Years ago I was shopping with my mom at Kmart, as we passed an aisle I noticed a guy crouched down behind a lady with a mirror looking up her dress,” the commenter wrote. The comment added, “I first noticed him because I saw him shoplifting a pocket mirror. I came up behind him and said what the F are you doing? The lady was unaware of what he was doing. His response? I don’t have a girlfriend’ I started calling out for the Manager, he ran out of the store.” Police took Crowder into custody at the scene on charges of loitering with intent to commit a crime. Crowder is currently held on $100,000. He’s expected in court on August 1.
