My family did when I was a teenager. There was a lemon tree in our back yard when we moved into the house where I spent my teen years. A neighbor had a Meyer lemon tree, and from what I gather a good way to get a bumper crop of lemons is to have lemon trees of different varieties close to each other so they can cross-pollinate, which in our case worked very well because both the neighbor's tree and our tree (different variety of lemon) thrived. We'd sell them for 10 cents each at yard sales and always sold out. We also had a pomegranate bush, but it wasn't very prolific, and my sister and I liked those so they weren't for sale. This was in central California so it's not practical everywhere.
