Guests have seen entire attractions and areas of the theme parks close over the last seven months, with plenty more closures on the way. Some of the most significant changes came earlier this year with the phased closure of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Half of this prehistoric-themed land closed permanently in January. The other half, which includes the land’s big “E-ticket” thrill ride DINOSAUR, will close at an unspecified date in 2026.In June this year, guests said their final goodbyes to Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Rivers of America. Eventually, this area will become a new spot inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise called Piston Peak. However, perhaps the most interesting and surprising project of the bunch is what’s happening inside Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.Disney World Replacing Star Wars Launch BayCredit: DisneyRelated: Big New Wave of Disney Ride Closures To Start in 24 HoursIn July 2025, Disney dropped a bombshell, announcing that Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios would be getting a massive makeover. Alongside new attractions and a new look, Animation Courtyard will receive a new name: The Walt Disney Studios.Once all is said and done, this area of the park will resemble Disney’s real offices in Burbank, California, giving visitors a peek behind the curtain at how movies and other productions are made. The biggest piece of this puzzle is the transformation of Star Wars Launch Bay. This interactive museum/walkthrough attraction hybrid has been a part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for years, but it often ranks poorly when compared to the park’s other offerings. Now, Star Wars Launch Bay is set to become a new attraction, The Magic of Disney Animation. Here, guests will be able to explore the world of Disney animation and moviemaking. Guests will be able to see portraits come to life and also learn how to draw like the professionals. While this announcement may still be fresh to fans, Disney is moving on this project quickly, with two new permits being filed earlier this month. Both of these permits are associated with Buena Vista Construction Company, which Disney often contracts out for work and refurbishments.Star Wars Launch Bay will close permanently on September 25. The Magic of Disney Animation will officially debut in 2026.“Our story in this newly reimagined space begins as the animators have temporarily stepped away… but the building is still buzzing with activity as the characters have come to life and they’re ready to play,” said Disney in an official release. This is hardly the only big project currently underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, though.Work is also ongoing on transforming Muppets Courtyard into Monstropolis, a new land inspired by Pixar’s Monsters Inc. This ambitious new land will immerse guests in the fictional city that Mike and Sully call home. Amid new locations to explore and snacks to enjoy, Monstropolis will also feature a first for Walt Disney World: a suspended roller coaster.Monstropolis is expected to open by 2027, though Disney has not released an official timeline just yet.Are you excited by all the changes coming to Walt Disney World? The post Disney World Gets Rid of ‘Star Wars’ Attraction, First Steps Already Taken appeared first on Inside the Magic.
