Police open fire to arrest prime accused in former gram panchayat member’s murder

The Kanakapura police on Monday opened fire and arrested a 45-year-old construction labourer who was allegedly involved in the murder of a former member of Gram Panchayat, while he was having dinner at a dhaba in Sathanur on Saturday night.The accused Srinivasa, a resident of Hongani Doddi, had a property dispute with a neighbour and the duo had filed a complaint and counter complaint with the police. However, the deceased N. Nanjesh reportedly supported the latter, said the police.Enraged, Srinivas allegedly roped in his four associates and attacked Nanjesh while he was having dinner at the dhaba and hacked him to death.Based on the CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and tracked down Srinivasa at a house in Gabbadi village where he had taken shelter.The police team reached the area based on credible information and warned Srinivasa to surrender and tried to arrest him. In a bid to escape, Srinivasa allegedly attacked constable Ramesh, following which Inspector Ananthramu warned Srinivasa and opened fire to stop him from fleeing. The police also arrested the other four accused and took them into custody for further investigations .Both the injured have been shifted to the hospital and are said to be out of danger.Published - July 28, 2025 07:54 pm IST
