Four-day Meet from Friday: BJP to form 43 district committees, to be ‘mix of veterans & new faces’

In the run-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled to be held next year, the BJP’s state unit is set to form 43 organisational district committees during a four-day meeting starting August 1.Apart from the party’s state leadership, the BJP’s central observers will also be present in the meeting, it is learnt.In March, the BJP had announced the names of 39 district presidents.The party, however, has not yet elected presidents for the organisational districts of Darjeeling, Ghatal, Bangaon and Barrackpore. Thus the party will also elect presidents in these districts, a senior party leader said.“It has been decided that the district committees will be a mix of both veterans and new faces. The party leadership has initiated ground work on this,” the party leader added.Several factors such as popularity in the area, clean image, adherence to the party ideology will be taken into consideration in the formation of the committees, he said.Moreover, the leadership will also look into the aspect of party infighting keeping in mind the larger goal of winning maximum seats in the Assembly elections, sources said.Story continues below this adNewly appointed BJP state president Shamik Bhattacharya had recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss the reshuffle of district committees.
