A trough runs from northeast Arabian Sea to south Bangladesh across Gujarat, MP, Jharkhand and adjoining areas at 3.1km above mean sea level,” the IMD said.The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued “orange and yellow alerts” for several southern districts of West Bengal, saying the state will continue to receive “heavy to very heavy rain” in the next two days.In North Bengal, “isolated heavy rainfall” is likely in the next four days, the department said.The orange alert was issued for Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur districts, amid the possibility of heavy rainfall (7-20cm), with wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph. The yellow warning was issued for Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura and adjoining districts, due to the possibility heavy rainfall (7-11cm), thunderstorms and gusty winds.In North Bengal, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and other districts were issued yellow alert for Wednesday and Friday due to heavy rainfall (7-11cm), along with thunderstorms and lightning.
