Magic Kingdom guests visiting Fantasyland this winter will soon notice a change in Storybook Circus, as one familiar character location prepares to close ahead of schedule.Credit: Only the Chosen, FlickrDisney has quietly updated its operating calendar to reflect an earlier closure date for Pete’s Silly Sideshow, the longtime home of circus-themed character meet-and-greets. The Fantasyland location was previously scheduled to close on January 5, but it will now cease operations tomorrow, January 4. The update appeared on official listings without a formal announcement, catching some planners by surprise.Located beneath colorful big-top tents near Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Pete’s Silly Sideshow has offered guests the chance to meet Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy in circus-inspired outfits. These experiences were presented as Meet Dashing Disney Pals as Circus Stars and Meet Daring Disney Pals as Circus Stars, with each character styled as a performer, complete with coordinated costumes and playful themes.Credit: Disney FanaticAccording to Disney, the closure is connected to maintenance and refurbishment work on the Fantasyland structure that houses the meet-and-greet area. While the company has not released details about the scope of the project, permit filings from late last year point to exterior work and general building upkeep. At this time, Disney has not shared a reopening date for the location. Images captured this weekend by Laughing Place show the location in rough shape.Although the tents will be unavailable beginning tomorrow, Disney has confirmed that the characters themselves are not leaving Storybook Circus. Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy will continue appearing somewhere within the land while refurbishment work is underway, though their exact greeting locations may vary during this period. The closure is limited specifically to the character meet-and-greet space. Big Top Souvenirs is expected to remain open, along with nearby food offerings, allowing guests to continue enjoying other Storybook Circus experiences while construction progresses.Credit: DisneyFor guests hoping to visit Pete’s Silly Sideshow in its current form, today, January 3, marks the final full day of operation. Anyone visiting Magic Kingdom tomorrow or later should expect the tents to be closed. This update arrives alongside another notable Fantasyland project. Cinderella Castle is currently undergoing a repainting effort that requires the moat to be fully drained, with construction equipment present throughout guest visits this year. Guests planning castle photos should be prepared to see cranes and crews as the work continues. As Disney adjusts refurbishment schedules and park offerings, guests are encouraged to review entertainment listings closely when planning visits centered around character experiences. How do you feel about this change of operation and closure at Magic Kingdom?
