Retired superintendent of CGST duped of Rs 9.7 lakh in cyber fraud

(File Photo)A retired superintendent of the CGST department was the latest victim of cyber fraud, after being lured on the promise of huge profits in a share trading scam, allegedly losing Rs. 9.70 lakh in the process.According to the police, the 61-year-old victim lives in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli (East) along with his wife and two sons. He had retired from CGST in July 2024 from the post of Superintendent. The victim alleged that he received a call on WhatsApp on November 25 from someone claiming to be from Ventura Securities and later was added to a group named ‘Limited CLUB-60’. In the group, they provided information on shares to by and sell among other trading advice.The victim said that he clicked on a link in the group provided by the admin and downloaded the ‘VSLNHW’ app which the fraudsters recommended to trade on. The victim then invested Rs. 9.70 lakh on the platform, and in ten transactions between December 13 to December 27 he transferred money through RTGS in different bank accounts provided by the fraudsters to “invest” in. The incident came to light when the victim found his virtual account showed zero balance and he began inquiring with admin, Siya Arora. Arora insisted that he invest more first, but when he asked to have his money returned, his request was rejected.The victim then spoke with his son and informed that he was cheated.
