Police arrest two snatchers who would flee into jungle, hide in hut guarded by dogs

By: Express News ServiceJanuary 4, 2026 10:54 AM IST 3 min readAfter receiving the complaint, police teams launched a search operation across the jungle area.The Chandigarh Police has arrested two snatchers who would flee into a dense jungle and hide in a makeshift hut guarded by more than a dozen aggressive dogs after committing robberies.The accused have been identified as Afjal, alias Salu, 30, and Mohammad Sahdman, alias Sadhu, both residents of Manimajra, with the help of the dog squad of Municipal Corporation, also demolished and set on fire the hut of the criminals.The arrest was made in connection with an FIR registered on December 17, 2025, at Manimajra police station. The case was registered on the complaint of Prem Pandey, 21, an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Shastri Nagar, Manimajra, who reported a snatching incident that took place on December 16.According to the complaint, Prem Pandey was travelling in his auto-rickshaw from Shastri Nagar via Housing Board Chowk when he stopped near the railway bridge on the jungle side around 4 pm. At that moment, two youths approached him from the railway light point, snatched Rs 14,000 in cash along with his documents, and fled towards the forested area behind the Housing Board.After receiving the complaint, police teams launched a search operation across the jungle area. During the operation, a hut hidden deep inside the forest was located.Police found that the hut was being used as a regular hideout by the snatchers after committing crimes and the area around the hut had been deliberately secured by releasing more than a dozen dogs, making it extremely difficult for anyone to approach.A man living in the hut in the guise of a ‘baba’ provided a cover, allowing criminals to take shelter there without drawing attention, said police sources.Story continues below this adWhen the police team reached the spot, the dogs began barking and charging towards them, forcing the police to call in the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh’s special dog control team. After a sustained effort, the dogs were brought under control, the occupant of the hut was removed, and the structure was demolished and set on fire to prevent its future use by criminals.Following investigation, analysis of CCTV footage and local intelligence, police arrested the two accused.During interrogation, both accused confessed that after committing snatching incidents, they would escape into the jungle, hide in the hut to evade arrest.Both accused were produced before a court which sent them to judicial custody.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
