Flight rule change: Use of power banks for in-flight charging barred by DGCA amid lithium battery fire fears

India has now barred use of power banks to charge portable electronic devices inflight amid instances of lithium batteries catching fire mid-flight. The DGCA issued a new circular which states airlines must report all lithium battery-related incidents to the DGCA. Power banks contain lithium-ion cells - compact, high-energy batteries that can store significant electrical charge and cheaper models lack built-in safeguards.
