Masaka NRM Candidate Risks Disqualification as EC Calls Monday Meeting to Decide Her Fate

By Mulengera ReporterThe NRM Candidate for the position of Masaka rural Woman MP position Joanita Lule is having sleepless nights after the Electoral Commission summoned her to appear for a meeting at its headquarters in Kampala on Monday. Nalule is being investigated by the EC after a concerned voter petitioned their Tribunal in Kampala demanding her denomination on grounds that she wasn’t properly nominated. The petitioner claims that, much as Nalule has the required qualifications, her UACE/S6 certificate was never among the documents she submitted to the EC to support her nomination on 23rd October as she came to be nominated. That she only submitted a letter from UNEB purporting to authenticate the credibility of her S6 qualifications, which themselves were never tendered to the Returning Officer. She also possesses a Diploma in Commonwealth Youth program, which too was never submitted. Nalule confirms that she has been summoned for the EC meeting on Monday but says she isn’t intimidated because her qualifications are in perfect order. She blames the petitioner for being a mere proxy for one of her two opponents namely DP’s Mary Babirye Kabanda and NUP’s Joanita Namutawe who actually is the incumbent Woman MP for Masaka district.  Nalule says that her two opponents are nervous because, this time round Gen Museveni’s ruling NRM party stands high chances to win the Masaka Woman MP Seat, which for a long time has been in the hands of the opposition. At first it was Babirye Kabanda who reigned up to 2021 when she was replaced by Joan Namutawe of the National Unity Platform. The NRM person who was there before them was Freda Kase Mubanda, the NRM diehard who succumbed to COVID.
