By the time Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters last summer, the franchise had already stretched itself thin creatively. But despite their own shortcomings, Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Dominion (2022) had at least expanded the series into a world where dinosaurs roamed freely, offering up countless future storytelling possibilities while severing ties with the exhausted island setting. But Rebirth ignored all of that, inexplicably wiping out the global dinosaur population and returning the story to yet another island setting for nothing more than “mutant” hybrids.Credit: Universal PicturesJurassic World Rebirth Has Ruined the SeriesWhile the movie did well at the box office, earning $869.1 million worldwide, audiences and critics were quick to point out the film’s many shortcomings. The film might have been a box-office hit, but it’s creatively bankrupt.Unsurprisingly, Universal Pictures is rumored to be hatching up another sequel, though nothing has been officially confirmed. Whatever comes next, the studio faces a tough challenge: how to move the story forward without repeating the same mistakes. However, for now, the real “reset” for the franchise is coming from a different direction.Credit: Universal PicturesRelated: ‘Jurassic World Rebirth 2’ Will Be the Wildest Entry in the FranchiseThe Jurassic Franchise Is Hitting Reset“Jurassic Park: Survival”, an upcoming first-person action-adventure game, ignores the latest films entirely and goes back to the beginning.
