I planned to pick up a friend about an hour away but the day got gross and murky and my car had no ac and front windows are stuck shut, so I asked my baby brother "hey if I cover gas do you wanna go on a mini trip with me for a few hours to pick up friend?" Expecting to toss him $30, maybe $40. The trip would be about 140 miles total, which is only about 6 gallons in my car. $18 of gas at the time in our area, roughly. He told me he'd need $80 and I decided the heat was better. Yeah id enjoy the drive more, but not enough to pay over 4x what i would if I just sucked up the heat. Turns out the silly goose did math wrong and apologized late like "i did the math at 3mpg instead of 13" kind of deal, but legit, if I'm broke and need a ride I AM going to kind of have to prioritize the mpg I can afford. I don't think it's a personal preference because of their morals like op seems to think it is, so much as affordability.
