How will we pay rent like this,” she asked.Renu, the mother of a Class 3 girl studying in the school, echoed the same. “Their studies are getting affected… They don’t study at home, and we have to go out to work.”Suraj, who used to study at the primary school for boys, said the school for girls getting waterlogged is not new. “Every year, water enters the classrooms… Even if some work is done to fix the infrastructure, the problem persists… Yesterday, many children were swimming in the water,” he added.Story continues below this adA teacher from the school for boys said that the school for girls gets inundated since water cannot pass through choked drains, which have not been cleaned for ages. “If the government wants, it can make everything better here. But there is no will. The parents say it is the responsibility of the teachers, but what is in our hand? Teachers try their best to assist students during such situations, even in the absence of a security guard.”Civic body officials said that pumps have been installed to clear the water. “The school is located in a low-lying area, leading to waterlogging.
