The new permit details “general construction” work but will involve demolition of the area as well as clearing the site for Magic Kingdom’s upcoming Piston Peak expansion.Disney’s new permit lists Phillips & Jordan, Inc. as the contractor, a company that specializes in modernizing infrastructure and overall site development. Aunt Polly’s was a former snack location found on Tom Sawyer Island. The eatery was rarely open, but remained an iconic part of the island.This update follows our reporting that Disney had begun marking props and other items on Tom Sawyer Island in preparation of the island’s demolition. Certain items had been marked with a green tag, while others were given a red one. Concept art released earlier this year shows that Piston Peak will feature several new locations and experiences, including a new thrill ride similar to Radiator Springs Racers in Disneyland.This project has been incredibly divisive among fans and guests alike. Some argue Magic Kingdom is losing its identity with the removal of Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.Disney World has been rumored to get its own Cars-themed expansion ever since Disneyland’s Radiator Springs opened in 2012. Popular theories placed a Lightning McQueen ride/attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but nothing ever came to fruition. Hollywood Studios will be getting a new land, albeit one inspired by Pixar’s Monsters Inc. franchise.Work began on this new land, officially called Monstropolis, earlier this summer following the closure of Muppets Courtyard.Piston Peak isn’t the only new area Magic Kingdom is set to get. Disney also announced that a new Villains land would be coming to the park during D23.
