With the passing of Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne, developer Double Fine decided to honor the rock-and-roll legend by making Brutal Legend free on PC for 666 minutes. Osbourne's likeness and voice is seen in the game as The Guardian of Metal, as well as Dadbat.Double Fine announced the "incredible deal" on BlueSky, which was already over at the time of publication. Offering Brutal Legend for free on Itch.io was done "to honor Ozzy's larger-than-life rock and roll legacy," per the developer's post.Osbourne died on July 22, 2025 and performed for the last time with Black Sabbath just weeks earlier at the Back to the Beginning concert in England, according to the New York Times. For over two decades, Ozzy and his wife, Sharon, helped oversee the annual Ozzfest tour. Osbourne also had a successful solo career after leaving Black Sabbath, and he was inducted twice to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Brutal Legend isn't the only time Osbourne showed up in a popular video game. The musician was also included in Guitar Hero World Tour, in which he'd perform "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley."
