Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday sought the intervention of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan into the alleged irregularities to the tune of over ₹100 crore in connection with the installation of solar pumps held in the public sector undertaking Anert (Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology) under the PM Kusum scheme, a central scheme to provide free solar pumps to farmers. In the absence of a proper investigation into the irregularities by the department concerned, the Chief Minister should intervene in this matter and take action against the accused after a detailed investigation. Though the Finance department reportedly conducted a flash investigation in connection with the issue, it is just a farce to save the skin. All the transactions conducted in the Anert for the last five years should be subjected to a forensic audit by an independent agency. An investigation should also be conducted by an Assembly committee. Only then will the full picture of the corruption come out, said Mr. Chennithala. The investigation into the irregularities should be conducted by removing the CEO of Anert from the post, and all the transactions should be subjected to a forensic audit, Mr. Chennithala said in a representation to the Chief Minister. He accused Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty and senior officials of being involved in alleged irregularities in a ₹240-crore tender issued by the agency. He accused the Anert CEO, who has the authority to call tenders for only ₹5 crore, of calling a tender for this project for ₹240 crore. Despite repeated requests to the Power Minister to clarify with whose permission this was done, he has not responded. Such a tender cannot be done without the permission of the Power Minister. The circumstances under which this was approved should be investigated, he said.Published - July 24, 2025 08:58 pm IST
